We offer two levels of thermal performance for all of our designs:
KIN Low Energy
Our cost-effective KIN Low Energy homes raise the bar for high performance. Featuring a superior building envelope, increased insulation, high-end airtightness, and a German-engineered mechanical ventilation system, they are warm, comfortable, healthy, and cost significantly less to run than a typical New Zealand home.
KIN Passive
KIN Passive homes meet the rigorous Passive House Standard which is world-leading when it comes to high-performance housing. They’re built for longevity and comfort and require almost no additional heating or cooling.
A Passive House is designed to optimise the health and comfort of its occupants while consuming very little energy.
It’s better for you, your pocket, and the environment.
A certified Passive House must meet the following rigorous international energy performance standards:
Specific Heating Demand | ≤ 15 kWh/(m2 a) |
or, Specific Heating Load | ≤ 10 W/m2 |
Specific Cooling Demand: | ≤ 15 kWh/(m2 a) |
Entire Specific Primary Energy Renewable (PER) Demand: |
≤ 60 kWh/(m2 a) |
Building Air Tightness: | n50 ≤ 0.6/h |
A site-specific thermal model is undertaken for every design and a Passive House must be independently verified and certified.
